  • Dr Brett Trusko, President & CEO, IAOIP

    Brett Trusko has a varied background including academia, consulting, accounting and speaking. He began his career with Coopers and Lybrand where he earned a CPA certification. He became the CFO of a major hospital in the Seattle after which he became a management consultant, becoming global Managing Director in charge of the “Quality and Excellence Practice” at BearingPoint. After 25 years he left consulting for academia focused on medical informatics, technology management and innovation. He continues to consult and is currently a Distinguished Professor at Symbiosis Institute for Business Management in Pune India as well as Houston Baptist University of Houston, Texas. He is also a Professor at New York University and Mount Sinai College of Medicine in New York. Dr Trusko is the President and CEO of the International Association of Innovation Professionals, a global association of innovation professionals with over 3500 members in 116 countries, and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Innovation Science. He is also the Secretariat to ISO 279 (Innovation Management Systems), for the United States delegation to the International Standards Organization and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). He regularly facilitates innovation efforts and strategic planning retreats. He has a Doctorate in Business Administration and Technology Management and has over 30 years of experience consulting in finance, innovation, quality, strategy, informatics, operations, and administration.

  • Rick Fernandez, COO, IAOIP

    Rick Fernandez is President of 20-20 Innovation, Inc. He has over 30 years experience in the area of Innovation and Operations. He has led Innovation Efforts in multiple industries ranging from Manufacturing, to Service and Government. Rick is currently serving as the COO of the IAOIP, International Association of Innovation Professionals and as the Vice-Chairman for the US TAG for TC-279 Innovation Management System that is developing the new Innovation Management System Standard Series ISO 56000 Rick was a contributing author in the area of Innovation Measurement to the recent book, “Total Innovative Management Excellence (TIME): The Future of Innovation” which was published in 2020, by Taylor and Francis Group. Recently he co-authored a book on “The Framework for Innovation” which was published September 2018, by Taylor and Francis Group. He is also the author of the book, Total Quality in Purchasing and Supplier Management, which was adopted by various universities as a textbook in their Supply Chain curriculum. He is an ISO 56002 Lead Auditor Black Belt (ILABB), Certified Innovation Professional (CPI), Certified Manager of Innovation (CMI), Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt (LSSBB), and Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM).

  • Frank Voehl, VP for Certification and Compliance, IAOIP

    Frank Voehl is the Chairman & CEO of 2020-Innovation, Inc since 2018, and President and CEO of Strategy Associates since its formation and incorporation as a consulting firm in 1992. He is also the Administrator for the ISO 56000 US TAG for Innovation Management since 2017, VP for Certification and Compliance, International Association of Innovation Professionals (IAOIP) and Board of Directors Member since 2017, Chancellor of the Harrington Institute since 2002 and past-Director of the Center for Process Improvement at Nova Southeastern University. Frank has forty years of practical experience in leadership for process enhancement, analysis and consulting, software operations management, change management, and program development and operations leadership at Florida Power & Light (FPL), FPL QualTec CEO, Strategy Associates CEO/President, PPN Executive VP, and COO/Chancellor of the Harrington Institute. He is an expert in the application of the process enhancement and innovation tools and methods to public and private organizations, including city, county, community, government, and non-profit operations. He has trained and coached over 300 teams in Lean Manufacturing, Problem Solving, Rapid Process Improvement and Process Management. His initiatives and project teams generated savings over $20MM annually.

    Smart Sustainability Driven by 4IR Technologies – Perspectives from Asia’s 1st World Economic Forum Sustainability Lighthouse Joseph Fernandez - Director Operations, Chief of Staff & Strategy, Western Digital

    Joseph Fernandez is Operations Director, Chief of Staff & Strategy at Western Digital (Sandisk Storage Malaysia). He is currently responsible for the site’s strategic initiatives working alongside with the Site VP & GM and team to ensure smooth operations of the solid-state drives operating unit. Joseph is a dynamic professional with over 25 years of experience in the manufacturing field encompassing various functions covering Quality Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, Process Engineering, Plant Management, Operational Excellence, Strategy and Sustainability. Most recently, Joseph was instrumental in leading the site towards the designation of Western Digital Penang as the first Advanced 4IR Lighthouse in Malaysia and the first Sustainability Lighthouse in Asia by the World Economic Forum. He is currently championing the Sustainability initiative for the Flash Backend operations at Western Digital. Prior to joining Western Digital, Joseph was at Honeywell UOP’s oil and gas business unit as the site leader accountable for the start-up of a green field plant in Penang, Malaysia. He was responsible for the new technology transfer from the US and successful scale up of the operations to serve on and off-shore customers. Joseph is passionate about transformation driving business excellence throughout value chains and growing people to reach their full potential. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems from Nottingham Trent University (UK) and a master’s degree in business administration from University Utara Malaysia. He is a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB) from ASQ USA, Certified Manager of Quality/Operational Excellence (CMQ/OE) from ASQ USA, Certified Scrum Master from Scrum Alliance USA, Certified Lean Expert by Honeywell International and Certified Master Coach (CMC) by ITD World.

    Cultivating and Nurturing Innovation Culture the Malaysian Way Dr Janaka Low - Principal of ViTrox Academy, ViTrox

    Dr. Janaka Low is the principal of ViTrox Academy. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Science Malaysia (USM), MBA from the University of Bath, UK, and Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Technology Malaysia (UTM). Previously, Janaka was an associate professor in management and dean of post-graduate studies in a Malaysian university. Janaka began his career as an engineer and manager in Intel for a decade. He then became a management consultant with a consultant company to serve multinational and local start-up companies before joining academia. He has taught various management-related subjects, including organization culture, structure and design, social marketing, social media marketing, ERP systems, entrepreneurship, business research methods, operations management, project management, customer relationship management, and marketing management. His research interests include the role of language in research methodology, marketing, and multinational control mechanisms. He has supervised and graduated more than 12 Ph.D. research students. In ViTrox, in addition to leading ViTrox Academy, he plays a vital role in sharing Vitrox’s experience in building an effective local company.

    SuYang is the Engineering Director in Dexcom (M) Sdn Bhd since May’21, bringing with him over 23 years of experience in Factory Operations, Class 100/1000 Cleanroom Operation, Process and Product Engineering, Big Data Analysis, Mechanical Integration R&D and Contamination Control in Wafer Manufacturing, Thin Film Magnetic Head manufacturing and FDA Class 1, 2 and 3 Medical Product operations.     What You Don’t Know About 5G – Challenges and OpportunitiesWong Peng Wen - CEO, FILPAL (M) Sdn. Bhd.

    Peng Wen Wong (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.Eng. degree (Hons.) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Leeds, in 2005, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Leeds, U.K., in 2009.,During the Ph.D. degree, he was involved in a U.K. DTI-funded project developing process design kits for multilayer system-in-package modules. He was fully funded by the U.K. Ministry of Defense through the DTC Program. He worked as an Associate Professor with the Petronas University of Technology, Perak, Malaysia from 2010-2019. From 2019-2021, he was with Huawei Sweden and worked as Principal Engineer and Program Manager, leading 5G research team for the development of next generation 5G massive MIMO base station. He received 2019 Future Star Award and Individual Performance Award 2020 from Huawei Sweden. Currently he is the CEO of FILPAL (M) SDN BHD, focussing on RF Design & Manufacturing. Dr. Wong is also an Associate Fellow of the AAET. He has served as an invited speaker locally and internationally including at APMC 2017 and a keynote speaker at ICCSP 2017. He is currently an Advisor of the IEEE Penang Joint Chapter. He has served as the Technical Chair for IMESS 2017 and 2018. He was the Former Chair of the IEEE ED/MTT/SSC Penang Chapter, from 2016 to 2017. He was the Founding Chair of the IEEE International Microwave, Electron Devices, and Solid-State Symposium (IMESS), in 2016.     Technology-Enabled Innovation by Local Malaysian Talent Based on German Dual Vocational Training Daniel Bernbeck - Executive Director, Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry

    Daniel Bernbeck has been heading the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MGCC) in Kuala Lumpur since 1 August 2015. After finishing his studies in Law and Islamic Science he was admitted to the Bar in 1995 in Germany as a Lawyer and began his career for a well-known law-firm specializing in bankruptcy proceedings in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, followed by a few years in the position of an Executive Assistant to a Board Member in one of the largest German corporations. Mr Bernbeck then decided to turn international again and joined as a Management Consultant for an American HR consulting firm based in Frankfurt. before joining the Associations of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) in 2007 and heading to Tehran, Iran, together with his wife and three children to head the German-Iranian Chamber of Commerce and Industry there. Daniel Bernbeck is also the Chairman of the Council of the German-Speaking Protestant Congregation of Malaysia since January 2019.

    Developing Innovation Adept Talent Dr Hari Narayanan - President, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU)

    Dr Hari Narayanan has a unique blend of experience gained over the last 35 years working in industry as well as in academia. Dr Hari joined Motorola Solutions in 1992 and retired in 2018. He was fortunate enough to be given several assignments and positions in Motorola Solutions that enabled him to sharpen and strengthen his leadership skills as well as technical knowhow. He was one of the key members of the leadership team in growing the R&D centre and enabling it to take on ground zero to commercialization of many successful products and solutions. To strengthen growth and capabilities, he successfully drove for quality excellence, efficiency and more importantly, innovation among the people. He was the Managing Director of the Penang operations and Head of the R&D center before his retirement. Dr Hari joined APU in mid-2019 as a Senior Director of Organizational Development to drive for corporate governance and practice across the Institution. In January 2020, he took on the role of VC. As the VC of APU, Dr. Hari’s focus was on providing effective learning experiences for the students of APU during the pandemic times, ensuring these students graduate on time, and also enhancing and launching new programmes . In the role of President, he continues to drive for corporate governance as well as people transformational initiatives. Dr Hari graduated with a 1st Class Honors in Mechanical Engineering from the Manchester Metropolitan University, UK in 1982. He obtained his PhD from the University of Manchester (UMIST) in 1985. Upon completing his PhD, he joined UMIST as a full-time staff. He left the academia in UK and returned to Malaysia in 1992. A Chartered Engineer (CEng) by profession, Dr Hari has been recognized by professional institutions for his technical and leadership depth, and contributions. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE), Fellow of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (FIET), Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (FCMI) and Member of the Management Institute of Malaysia (MIM). He was one of the Founder Board members of CREST. He was appointed as the Chairman of USM’s Board of Governors for a short period of time, 2018/2020, by MOHE. Dr Hari currently chairs the Focus Area 1 related to enhancing Valued Added Activities in the EE industry, part of the EEPN initiative by MPC; he is the key driver for the adoption of industry led curriculum for IC design in universities, nationwide. In 2007, Dr Hari was the recipient of the Public Bank-MIM Senior Manager of the Year for practicing exemplary management and leadership and contributing significantly to his organisation and industry. In 2015, Dr Hari was appointed as Adjunct Professor (UMP) in the CEO Faculty Program by MOHE. In November 2018, Dr Hari was recognized by MOHE as the Best CEO, one of the Most Active and Visible CEOs in this Faculty Program. He was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering by UMP in 2018. For his significant contributions throughout the years in industry, he received the DJN award in 2018 from the Governor of Penang state.

    Dr Khoh Soo Beng is a curious techie who loves to solve problems, explore possibilities and inspire a new way of working. He has > 28 years of experience in R&D, manufacturing, IT, project and innovation in Fortune 500 MNCs based in Malaysia and abroad. He helps working professionals, organisations and business owners leverage Industry 4.0 technology, Lean, Six Sigma & Analytics to create value in digital health, med-tech, electronics and semiconductor market verticals. Dr Khoh consults internationally and has trained over 1,000 professionals and students as a trainer (HRDF certified, former Motorola University) and Adjunct Professor (University of Wollongong-Malaysia-KDU). Dr Khoh understands innovative and disruptive technology and can link them to business strategy for value creation. His technical interests include real-time embedded systems, automotive Controller Area Network (CAN) bus, the Internet of Things(IoT), Industry 4.0 technology, MedTech, Digital Health, analytics & digital dashboards, knowledge management, Lean, Six Sigma methodologies & tools (DFSS, DMAIC, Lean, VOC, KJ, Kano, QFD, CPM, DFMEAs, FMEA, FTA, TRIZ etc.), new product design & development, intellectual property management & patents, design thinking, technology-enabled innovation, entrepreneurial and start-ups.     Dr. Ong Sze Wei is a Design Engineering Director at Intel where he leads the Product Enablement Solutions Group in Malaysia. Prior to this role, he led the Asia applications and solutions engineering team which provide design support to Intel foundry customers. Dr. Ong also headed multiple design automation teams at Intel in the past which delivered design capabilities and solutions for Intel Pentium, Core and Atom processors. Aside from his engineering roles, Dr. Ong previously founded and led multiple industry-government-academia initiatives for technical and talent development in Malaysia. He also represented Intel externally as the industry advisor for many Malaysian and Australian universities.

    Dato’ Ts. Dr. Shanmuganathan Palanisamy, a transformational leader with high interpersonal skill and passion for innovation. He is the current Kontron's Malaysia Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Prior to joining Kontron, after a short stint in Malaysia upon graduating from USA, he was based in overseas assignments at Hong Kong, China and Canada where he involved in various R&D Groups developing and manufacturing products for consumer, RF, Medical and embedded industries. He returned to Malaysia to continue contributing to R&D field. With his passion and versatile executive capabilities in engineering with development background, he managed to transform Kontron Malaysia from a manufacturing incline company to today's R&D CoE (Centre of Excellence) for Kontron embedded boards , system and IoT (Internet of Thing) mainly focusing vertical applications in Industrial 4.0, Avionics and Transportation. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Shaan begins his career as a RF engineer and continue building his career holding various technical and executive management positions through his 32 years tenure. He holds Bsc. Electrical Engineering (Major in Electronic and System Control), USA, master’s in business administration (MBA), Malaysia and awarded Doctor of Philosopy (PhD) from Universiti Sains Malaysia He's also currently appointed as E&E Productivity Nexus Chairperson for Strategic Initiatives 4 and Sub-Committee Council Member of the Penang Socio Economic Recovery Consultative Council (PSERCC). Recently, he has been appointed as Vice Chairman NSC 25/TC 11 (Innovation Management) under Departments of Standards Malaysia.

ET comes with extensive experience at Hewlett-Packard, HP Labs and Seagate Technology in Silicon Valley and the UK.     Towards Sustainability and ESG. What if you don't have ESG? Matthew Baird - Director, Asian Research Institute for Environmental Law Teaching Fellow at the College of Law Australia

    Matthew Baird has over 32 years experience in environmental and planning law in Australia. Matthew was Chair of the Environment and Planning Law Group of the Law Council of Australia from 2008–2012, Australia’s peak body representing the legal profession in Australia. He is a member of LAWASIA’s Committee on Environmental Law and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Commission on Environmental Law (WCEL). Matthew has consulted to the Asian Development Bank, UN Environment, UNDP, WWF, and Vermont Law School in Myanmar, providing capacity building and training on EIA to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Conservation of Myanmar and on ESG to the Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry. He led one of the first training programs on environmental law and advocacy in Myanmar in October 2012 and has remained engaged on environmental law in Myanmar since that time until the recent coup. He has worked widely in South-East Asia on environmental law and environmental impact assessment. In September 2016, he was appointed as Visiting Scholar of the Myanmar Environmental Governance Program of Vermont Law School. He is a Honorary Research Fellow at the Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business and a Fellow of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand. Matthew is a Teaching Fellow at the College of Law Australia and teaches courses in ESG Law & Practice and International Arbitration.

    Amir Hamzah is the Quality Director for Sanmina-SCI Systems Sdn Bhd. He has held that post ever since Sanmina took over the manufacturing operations from Motorola Solutions Inc in 2016. Prior to the transition, he has worked in several positions in Motorola Solutions over the span of 23 Years, starting as an automation engineer, moving on to driving Knowledge Management and developing systems and applications for manufacturing to leading SMT engineering and operations. As a Quality Director for Sanmina he also champions Lean Six Sigma through a mechanism called Teaming for Excellence which encourages employees to form teams to do continuous improvement and develop their competencies in using Lean Six Sigma tools. More than 60 projects are initiated yearly from all functions of the organization with the top teams participating in Sanmina regional and global quality circle conventions as well as the events organized by Malaysia Productivity Corporations winning many awards along the way. This year Malaysian productivity corporation recognized Sanmina_SCI System as a Frontier company for productivity improvement. Amir Hamzah holds a Bachelors of Engineering Degree in Electronic Systems Engineering from Kingston University and a Master of Science Degree in Information Engineering from City University. He is also currently an Industrial Advisor for the School of Mathematics, Universiti Sains Malaysia.
