Speakers’ Profile

Dr Cheab Sovuthy
Technical Consultant, Filpal (S) Pte Ltd

Sovuthy Cheab (M'15) received the B.Eng. Degree (Hons.) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering majoring in Communication Systems, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Microwave Engineering from the Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), in 2010, 2012, and 2015, respectively. During his Ph.D. studies, he had also been involved in RFID design project for oil and gas applications. He has filed four patents with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) on RF and microwave filters and published various journals including the IEEE ACCESS journal and IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters. His current research interests include waveguide and dielectric filters and the passive filter miniaturization techniques. Dr Cheab has been the Executive Committee Member of the IEEE ED/MTT/SSC Penang Chapter since 2016, and was elected as the Secretary of the IEEE International Microwave, Electron Devices and Solid-State Symposium IMESS in 2018. He received the Scholarship Award from Petronas for B.Eng. Degree. He served as the MTT Technical Chair of IMESS 2019 and has been appointed as a Chapter Liaison for the IEEE Malaysia AP/MTT/EMC Joint Chapter for the years 2019 and 2020. He is also a member of IEEE and the Board of Engineering Malaysia (BEM). Dr Cheab Sovuthy serves as the Technical Consultant for Filpal and delivers various talks including the workshop on practical RF and microwave sub-system design covering the design of RF front-end devices from design, simulation, fabrication and prototyping to testing.
