Master : Engineering in Photonics

Research and development in the field of photonics technology has been growing and surging at an enormous pace. The technology harnesses light for information carrying and processing, which offers greater speed and capacity over the competing technologies. To date, photonics has been propelled into its present position as the technology of choice and imparted dramatic impact at the heart of many modern industries such as entertainment (e.g. lasers lighting), avionic (e.g. gyroscope), telecommunication (e.g. WDM, MEMS) and to the more recent inception in the field of biophotonics (e.g. biosensor) and it is still rapidly expanding to almost every imaginable field. In view of the benefits it can bring, equipping and updating oneself with the knowledge and latest development in photonics technology is essential with the belief that it would continue to offer enormous scientific and technological opportunities to improve our lives.

At the Faculty of Engineering, Multimedia University, we are aware of the extent of up-to-date knowledge to which a fully competent worker in photonics engineering requires. Therefore, the M.Eng. (Photonics) programme at MMU aims to groom engineers to meet the challenges or even beyond the expectations of the photonics industries. Our academicians will ensure the right blend of the necessary theoretical and practical learning structures that will provide a comprehensive cover in all major aspects of photonics technology.
