Swiss company donated RM150,000worth of instruments - to complement the education curriculum of the PSDC
 
Sylvac SA donated RM150,000-worth of digital measuring equipment and software to the PSDC Precision Machining Technology Centre.

The Chairman of the PSDC Applied Engineering Technical Advisory Committee, Mr Billy Ooi said this contribution is timely in helping the centre to expand its capabilities to offer more high technology training and services to the industry.

He added that the PSDC will be utilising the donated instruments and software to further enhance its existing quality control training modules and digital measurement services. This new capability will also be used to speed up the practical examination marking process for the Certificate Program in Precision Machining Technology, Levels 2 & 3.  At the same time, these instruments will be utilised under the PSDC Shared Services to cater to the digital measuring needs of the industry, especially for the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

Introducing Bluetooth specs by next year
Besides the donation of instruments, Sylvac will also assist the PSDC in setting up a training module on Data Transmission and Traceability of Controls. This module will be added into the syllabus of the PSDC Diploma in Manufacturing Technology program in the near future. Sylvac will also be helping to conduct a Train-The-Trainers Program for PSDC trainers.  Mr Billy Ooi thanked Sylvac for their supports and believed that the PSDC trainers will greatly benefit from this arrangement.

Mr Jean-Marie Schaffter, Sylvac SA Manager for Asia, said that by next year, the company will be introducing specs that are compatible with Bluetooth technology which can reduce the usage of electricity consumption. He viewed the PSDC as Sylvac’s industry partner in Asia and realised the importance of new technology in penetrating into a new market. Mr Schaffter hoped that this donation of measuring instruments will assist in producing more competitive workforce in the future.  Such partnership with the PSDC will also help to bring in new customers for Sylvac.

Boonler: Building Talent for Medical Devices Industry
Dato’ Boonler Somchit, CEO of the PSDC, mentioned that the centre will focus more in building talent for medical devices industry since there is a raise in public concern towards medical and healthcare protection.  He hoped the government will expedite the RMK 10 fund distribution to support the industry and at the same time open up new potential market.

When interviewed by the media about the future financial budget, he commented, “The local industrial development relies on the PSDC to churn out talented workforce and this can only be done with fully equipped facilities and machineries. “

He said the centre has yet to receive the RM70,000,000 fund from RMK9 which will be used to purchase new equipment for talent building.

“Out of the current 275,000 sq ft of the PSDC building, there is another 5000 sq ft which can be utilized to furnish with new facilities and teaching materials. We hope to train and nurture more talents in the field of medical devices. Be it in the line of servicing or designing, I am sure the future will be bright”, said Dato’ Boonler.
