CEO's Message

Welcome to the PSDC’s new interactive website!

In November 2009, we celebrated our 20th Anniversary, where we accorded special acknowledgement and thanks to our Founding Members – the visionaries and the industrialists – who believed that human capital development is a critical pillar on which to bolster a modern industrialised economy.

We have more than 145 member companies, who provide us with leadership and support. It is this industry-driven model that has led us through 20 years of phenomenal success in training and talent building. We are a unique collaboration of industry, government, and academia. Coupled with a quest for excellence, we have evolved into a dynamic and sustainable human capital development institution, and have been benchmarked both near and far.

Today, the PSDC trains the workforce at multiple levels. Exploring our website will provide you with an insight into our endeavors. Through our concerted efforts in responding to industry needs and demands, we have successfully trained over 150,000 personnel. We have also upgraded operators to technicians, technicians to sub-specialty specialists, and contributed directly to the creation of a larger engineer pool through our diploma and degree programs.

Education plays a pivotal role in the economic transformation of a nation. As Malaysia pursues the aspiration of becoming a high income nation, we have to work together to address the issues that surround human capital development. In order to do that, training institutions must step to the fore and shed its ‘more of the same’ mentality. It is in this spirit that we are pleased to announce the creation of PSDC 3.0.

Construction is ongoing on a new Shared Services Centre, which will house high technology testing, design, and development facilities. For the first time in Malaysian history, a public-access Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Lab will exist to provide the facilities that will foster innovation and design within the SME community.

2010 promises to be an exciting year as we herald PSDC 3.0 – the advent of high technology and value-added activities beyond manufacturing. FasTrack programs aimed at accelerating engineering talent will be introduced through the concept of shared learning. In short, a ‘finishing school’ for fresh engineers.

Whether you are an alum, or an existing or a prospective student, the doors of the PSDC are always open to you. I end with a quote from Alvin Toffler, who said The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.”

Best Regards,
Dato’ Boonler Somchit
